Tremeika Small
Photographer
My work is an ode to culture. I’m dedicated to building community and connection, and am very diverse when choosing my subjects…
Due to imposter syndrome and not feeling like I’m enough simply due to being a black woman in America, I lean on my community heavily and celebrate them in every way possible. Though the bulk of my portfolio is from my event photography, I believe that the energy of the subject reflects the energy of the photographer, and always being mindful of the energy I exude, ensuring its warmth and positivity.
“What do we do in the face of adversity? Racism? Sexism? sexualization? Festishization? Misogyny? Patriarchy? All these things that undermine our existence? Like the phoenix, we rise. That’s what this collection exemplifies. The rising of the phoenix. Smiling in the face of negativity. Believing that we are good. Feeling our feelings. Owning our beauty. Using our energy to transform our environments. A true superpower.“
